Adventure Education for Physical Education
OPA’s Comprehensive Adventure Education for Physical Education program is a structured, research-based program that improves physical well-being, social skills and behavior in K-12 students.This is one of OPA’s most popular workshops for physical education teachers. In this workshop each PE teacher will learn how to incorporate adventure games and activities into the PE curriculum. PE teachers will experience, first hand, specific activities and initiatives that will promote: movement concepts and the use of motor skills, fitness, self-confidence and self-esteem, leadership skills, communication skills, the student’s ability to formulate and achieve goals, mutual support and respect toward differences; develop the abilities that contribute to group decision-making and problem solving. All activities are aligned with State and National Physical Education Standards. This workshop can take place at your site or at the OPA Retreat Center. Advanced and Introduction Tracks are offered.

Adventure Programming for Fitness
In this fun and dynamic workshop each PE teacher will learn how to incorporate adventure games and activities into your current PE curriculum. This workshop will focus on health, wellness, & fitness. Each participant will experience a cross section of adventure activities that will promote students achievement of health related fitness including cardiovascular, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and life skills. This program is designed for middle school age children through adults, regardless of ability or fitness level, this innovative new program is also easily adapted for elementary age children.
Adventure Programming for Fitness will help each teacher to:
- Teach health-related fitness in an interactive way.
- Engage students in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
- Infuse fun and social support into your current health and fitness program.
- Utilize fitness activities that meet character education requirements
- Conduct fun stress management sessions utilizing Adventure activities.
This workshop can take place at your site or at the OPA Retreat Center.

The Affordable Portable Adventure Education In-Service
This program is specifically designed for Physical Education Teachers, Teacher Aides, Coaches, and Counselors who are relatively new to adventure programming and want to receive a great introduction into Adventure Education. or if you have you been leading Adventure activities for years and are looking for new ideas for your ‘bag of tricks”? Either way, this in-service is dynamic, very interactive, and fun! You will definitely walk of this training with a new bag of tricks. Participants will:
- Learn skills to facilitate portable icebreakers, community-building games, and problem-solving initiatives.
- Use a variety of easily available props, games and materials.
- Learn to use sequencing, framing and debriefing skills to enhance effectiveness of activities.
- Be able to implement an effective and fun adventure program using portable games and initiatives.

Adventure Learning Adapted Physical Education
As the numbers of general physical educators who, for the first time, are including students with disabilities are rising, so is the number of questions and concerns regarding these inclusionary experiences. This workshop can be geared towards elementary, middle or high school general physical educators. This workshop will include discussion and participation actually “trying-out” ways for including students with disabilities. Our goal is to reduce the anxieties often related to the unknown associated with inclusion of students with a disability into a general physical education class. Participants will go away with practical strategies and activities that will assist them during this inclusionary process. PE teachers will experience, first hand, specific activities and initiatives that will promote: movement concepts and the use of motor skills, self-confidence and self-esteem, communication skills, the student’s ability to formulate and achieve goals, mutual support and respect toward differences; develop the abilities that contribute to group decision-making and problem solving.
